Schoolathon 4 Canterbury
Schoolathon4Canterbury is an organisation working to help school children after the quakes. A fund will be established for the needs of the children as they recover and re-establish. The money can provide respite care, food assistance and replace things not covered by insurance or funded by any other organisation.
Initiatives include posting videos capturing performances and expressions of goodwill between schools, PenPals, readathon etc.
Schoolathon4Canterbury has already been working with some Christchurch schools, including Woolston School, featured in the video link below, showing students reading poems they created soon after the February 22 quake.
Schoolathon4Canterbury aims to bring together the young from all over New Zealand from Pre-School to Primary, Intermediate and Secondary Schools and give them an opportunity to support the children of Christchurch and contribute to or fundraise toward a fund for that future. It will also be a chance for the schoolchildren of Christchurch to give their perspective of what the quake meant to them and what they see as the future for Christchurch. We will document their stories, their experiences of the quake, and "get them talking‟… what they need and their future vision of the rebuilding of Christchurch.
The organisers of the Schoolathon4Canterbury project are wanting to hear from other Christchurch schools and teachers who might be interested in participating in some of the projects being organised.
