Kia ora,
Waiho i te toipoto, kaua i te toiroa
Let us keep close together, not wide apart
It is hard to believe that the 2024 school year is almost over and 2025 is just around the corner!
We know it has been another busy year for schools, kura, ākonga, kaiako, whānau and the wider education sector. Here at the GCSN we wanted to take the time to look back on what has been a busy year. We have continued to strengthen our relationships across the sector to deliver high quality learning experiences for ākonga. These have included Christchurch City Libraries school programmes, our partnership with Imagination Station, several digital fluency projects created and facilitated by Wilj Dekkers, PLD delivered by Emma Planicka, and the Top of the Pods podcasting competition in partnership with the Libraries, Plains FM and LOOP. We have also published a number of resources available on the GCSN website about utilising AI to support effective teaching and learning, mitigating cyberbullying, cybersafety and security, podcasting and building online communities. We would like to thank all our amazing partners for their hard work and creativity in bringing these projects to life!
During the second half of 2024 we have also been progressing the Hono Mai project - a GCSN initiative which aims to connect 1,000 tamariki across Ōtautahi with a digital device and home internet connection. We have been working with Te Waka Unua School during the pilot stage of 2024 and will be looking to scale up the project in 2025 to benefit more learners and their whānau.
We are excited about what is around the corner. Read on to see what opportunities will be coming up in 2025, how to get involved, and the resources available to support you and your school/kura to integrate AI effectively and ethically in the classroom.
Keep your eyes peeled and stay in the loop about what is happening at GCSN on X/Twitter, Facebook or via the GCSN website.
Noho ora mai rā,
The GCSN Team
